Grace Hospital Foundation COVID-19 Fund
October 15, 2020 – In early 2020, nobody could have foreseen the changes that were about to be required upon our way of life. COVID-19 has presented the world with challenges we could never have imagined. With massive reductions to hospital visitations, staff who are overtaxed but giving it their all, and worried families, we launched the “Grace Hospital Foundation COVID-19 Fund” to raise money to immediately support our patients, their families and our staff in ways nobody could have planned for. We realized that with the seriousness of the situation, we needed to specifically seek community support to immediately help connect Grace patients with loved ones.
Our priority was, and always is, to help comfort patients and families as best we can by making it easy to stay in touch with their loved ones. With the funds raised, the Foundation has, and is continuing to provide free Internet, phone, and television service to all Grace Hospital beds during the months that hospital visitors are not allowed to enter the building during this pandemic. We also purchased I-Pads for the Intensive Care Unit, as there were no bedside terminals in the area, so that the most critical patients can communicate through FaceTime with their loved ones.
Not to be left out or forgotten, the COVID-19 Fund was also used to provide small comforts to the ever-so-hard working staff of Grace Hospital. Their focus and dedication is always extremely commendable, and the way they have adapted and stepped up to face the challenges of the pandemic is nothing short of incredible. Staff have been able to regularly enjoy small comforts courtesy of the COVID-19 Fund in the form of “Free Refreshment Days”, and delicious snacks such as ice cream sandwiches. In addition to these goodies, dozens of local restaurants and meal sponsors have ensured that Grace staff have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, free meals during their work days.
The Grace Hospital Foundation, and the staff and management of the Grace Hospital would like to extend our warmest thanks for the generosity shown by thousands of supporters who donated to the COVID-19 Fund. If there is one thing that Manitobans are well known for, it is coming together to help one another in times of need!
