The Grace Adapts as the Pandemic Evolves
As of May 7, the Grace cancelled all non-urgent elective surgeries so we could convert our post-surgical recovery unit back into a 15-bed “Red COVID-19 ICU”. This unit is already close to full, as is our COVID-19 in-patient unit on 5-South.

It’s Not a BINGO – But We’re Definitely Kinsmen Jackpot Winners!
Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo has been one of the most popular activities for Manitobans to get involved in for many years, but especially during this pandemic. The Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg have been extremely generous to so many charitable and volunteer organizations recently and throughout the years, and the Grace is extremely grateful to be included in their generosity.
The Grace Hospital Foundation was the lucky recipient of an $80,000 donation from the Kinsmen, which in turn, was used to purchase two, much needed portable ultrasound machines for the Grace. The ultrasound machines in the hospital are in extremely high demand as they are an important piece of equipment in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, as well as for a large variety of other ailments. These two machines will be used in the Intensive Care Unit, and the Emergency Department.
This wonderful donation means that Grace patients needing an ultrasound to receive a health diagnosis will have a shorter wait time to receive the procedure, and hence, receive answers and a treatment plan faster. With this donation, the Kinsmen have compassionately displayed their focus on giving back to the community and their dedication to assisting with healthcare in Manitoba.
To show our appreciation, a plaque has been placed on a family meeting room in the Emergency Department as a permanent reminder of the generosity and care shown to the Grace by the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg!

Arrival of the New Grace SPECT-CT Gamma Camera
Diagnostic Imaging Manager, Jan, is not the only one who is ecstatic about the special delivery which arrived to the Grace this week; Everyone in the hospital is incredibly excited to see this important piece of equipment arrive!
It is a SPECT-CT Gamma Camera, and it will be used to create 3D pictures of internal organs. It can be used for many imaging needs including cancer diagnosis, identification of hidden bone fractures and blocked blood vessels, specialized cardiac imaging, and much, much more. A SPECT-CT scan is a type of nuclear medicine scan where the images or pictures from two different types of scans are combined together. The combined scan can provide precise information about how different parts of the body are working and more clearly identify problems.
It is just one piece of new equipment that is a part of the “Envision Our Grace” Diagnostic Imaging Expansion & Renovation project. This renovation will enable the Grace to be even more effective in providing patient care.

Grace Hospital Foundation COVID-19 Fund
In early 2020, nobody could have foreseen the changes that were about to be required upon our way of life. COVID 19 has presented the world with challenges we could never have imagined. With massive reductions to hospital visitations, staff who are overtaxed but giving it their all, and worried families, we launched the “Grace Hospital Foundation COVID-19 Fund” to raise money to immediately support our patients, their families and our staff in ways nobody could have planned for. We realized that with the seriousness of the situation, we needed to specifically seek community support to immediately help connect Grace patients with loved ones.
